Season's Greetings

Everyone involved with the Sue Montecito site would like to wish all parents, students and former staff, all the best for the holiday season and the new year.

At this stage, all we can suggest, is to make sure your proof of claims have been sent to the courts, and any other information be passed to the relevant agencies.

The DLSE Wage Claims have been dismissed due to the filing for bankruptcy, but proof of claim forms should be submitted to the court by former staff members as an alternative.

There are no specifics to disclose for now; all we can do for a while is wait for events to take their course, and hopefully report back soon.

  1. Happy Holidays to everyone!

Very sad that we couldn't make the Sunday meeting due to the busy holiday schedule. Hope there's another chance to join the APALC meeting.

  2. Does anyone have his Ed Kuckelkorn home address?

  3. Is it still possible to get my money back, because I had thought that it would have been impossible for me get my money back until my friend told me about this website. What is the first step in trying to get my money back? The money I used to pay for MFA was out of my own pocket not my parents..

  4. Not sure why you'd want the home address, but it is on the side bar of this website in the "Ed Kuckelkorn Information" area.

(By the way, my spell checker suggests two words to replace Kuckelkorn; "Pumpernickel" or "Bloodsucker".)

  5. As for getting your money back, no one knows what the outcome will be for everyone.

If you look through the articles and posts on this site, you will see how a number of strategies have been followed in an attempt to at least try all avenues.

The point is, whatever the outcome, successful or not, at least a collective effort has been made. I hope you can follow advice on this site and help tip the balance.

  6. Is there any information on what the pair is up to these days? Have they started a new business venture?

  7. It's almost tax season, and I was just wondering if any former employees have received their W-2's (I doubt it, but I just wanted to ask)? This is where it's going to get really tricky since it's very likely that the accounting department didn't pay into our employee taxes. Does anyone know how to proceed? This is very serious, because the IRS could subpoena our records in the future if we don't report our taxes accurately. And no one wants to get audited, especially if it's not our fault but Montecito's.

  8. You should have the amount paid to you from your last check stub. There is a special form you can include in your tax return for situations in which you have not received your W2s. It actually happens all the time for a variety of reasons. Whether you get a W2 or not, you still report the earnings.
Having a special form may actually help you not get audited, since it demonstrates your willingness to include income not included on an attached W2.
If you aren't sure, just ask an accountant, it would be worth the few dollars to make sure your return is completed properly. Just don't use Nathan.

Evidently, Ed plans to reopen the school.

  12. This is a very very old site. It was put there in an attempt to con the courts in allowing Ed to file for Chapter 11.

It fooled no one. The scam failed. He couldn't.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Is it true Ed had filed bankruptcy before and just keeps reopening the school? I've head he had filed bankruptcy in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yes, he had filed bankruptcy in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Is there any new information?

    ReplyDelete
  16. At least one of Ed's houses is for sale, and two of his cars are no longer being advertised, presumably sold.

It would be useful for the greater good to know what he is up to now.

Can anyone mail the website with updates?

  19. Sue Montecito can only report what news there is, and sadly, no developments have come to its/our attention in a while. If anyone has any news, please let us know on the site email.

  20. I was somewhat concerned to see that the Office of Homeland Security that authorizes the issuing of I20s for International Students, is still listing Montecito as an authorized site. It was my understanding that this had been reported. If they are still allowed to issue I20s, as of April 2010. that means they could still be collecting money from students abroad who are unaware that there is no school. I know Ed had agents representing the school in China, Korea, Egypt and Turkey. I know this because I met with several of them while I was working at the school.

  21. Do you have links or specifics that can be forwarded? Perhaps we would be able to pass on the information to the relevant agencies.

  22. Monty, the list is found at

    www.ice.gov/doclib/sevis/pdf/ApprovedSchools.pd

I have also left a message for Christine, the attorney from APL...
who contacted me regarding the email correspondence I saved and other documents I had collected when I became troubled by what had happened.
Another concern I have involves the folks who were running the high school. It is my understanding that they actually charged the students to release their transcripts so they could go back to their previous schools. In some cases, they were charged up to $1000 to have their transcripts released. This is very questionable behavior by someone who claims she too was cheated by the Kuchelkorns. I have never heard of such behavior or "price" tag for transcripts. This is not hearsay, as I am currently working with one such student, whose parent refused to pay the $1000 and settled for $200, which is still outrageous. The person who demanded the transcript ransom has opened her own school. Apparently parents who sent their kids to the Montecito high school program still felt as though the educational system was credible enough to continue with the existing leadership.

  23. I was a student who was asking for my transcript last year in order to go back to my previous school. To my knowledge, she did not ask my parents for money in order to get my transcript. What happened though, was that my parents had to sneak up on her and forced her to give me my transcript. Fortunately my mom did so, and everything worked out fine.. Oh wait... it turns out the courses weren't college prep. Meaning, I've spent part of my high school career doing nothing on my college transcript.... Even elective courses are college prep.. sigh..

I also doubt that we'll get our money back because knowing that he works outside of the country, there is a high percentage that he and his family moved out of the country to possibly China or Germany.. He knows that it's impossible for him to live in the US anymore
